The Movie "Collapse" is a Must See

Collapse Chris Smith

After watching Chris Smith’s latest documentary, Collapse, there is no going back: once seen its nearly impossible to forget.

Despite its focus on the now commonplace concerns for modern society’s unsustainable growth, the film ignites the imagination in a way so few talking head documentaries ever achieve. At its core is Michael C Ruppert, CIA whistleblower and activist reporter, who, like a modern day Morpheus, pulls back the veil of reality to show in a stark light the underpinning make-believe that sustains our hope in a sustainable status quo. According to him, any perception of stability at present exists solely because those in power see no political advantage to alert the public of how dire the situation has become. Not even Obama can get you out of this one, he warns; this collapse runs deep and is inevitable, and it is happening right now. The effect is assaultive, in rapid-fire succession Ruppert unloads his thesis on the audience who are left to recoil as the gravity of the situation deepens. Lacking any familiarity with the issues of ‘peak oil’ prior to seeing this film, my alarm watching the movie was at an optimal high.

I cannot wait to see this movie! At some level I realize that this Morpheous of a sort may have news that I do not want to hear - I also know that I must hear it. Conspiracy theories can be quite ridiculous but I have zero doubt that the American government would mislead the public to meet the satisfaction of big industry that pulls the strings.

Zander - My little Comedian

Zander couldn't get back to sleep this morning when he woke up at 4:30 am so he was in interesting spirits. In fact, he turned into a little comedian; as you can see. I had a great laugh when I found him sitting with his overalls completely over his head, his body swaying gently. Laughing hard, i pulled them up to see his grinning face at which point he promptly pulled them over his head again. What ensued was a hilarious game of peek-a-boo, from which I got these few photos... he hehe awesome!

John Espley is the Business Development Manager for Accent Inns - a great hotel chain based in Victoria with locations all over the province. John was chosen a few months ago as one of Check 6 TV's Unsung Islander's for being such a selfless promoter of others and a huge community supporter (it is mind boggling how much John does to support his community). Congratulations John - you deserved this awesome accolade more than anyone I know.

The Longest Solar Eclipse of the Century - by the Boston Globe

The longest solar eclipse of the century

Earlier today, the moon passed directly in front of the sun, causing a total solar eclipse that crossed nearly half the Earth - through India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Myanmar and China. Today's was the longest total solar eclipse of the 21st century, lasting as much as 6 minutes and 39 seconds in a few areas. Despite cloudy skies in many of the populated areas in the path, millions of people gathered outside to gaze up and view this rare event. Collected here are a few images of the eclipse, and those people who came out to watch. (33 photos total)

You must go to this page from the Boston Globe to see more... what a wonderful collection of photos! Here is the link: http://www.boston.com/bigpicture/2009/07/the_longest_solar_eclipse_of_t.html

A Great Remember the Milk (RTM) App for Android

I've been wanting to toy around and learn the Android OS since I got my G1 phone a couple months ago. All the Google services work great on Android: GMail, Calendar, Maps, etc. However, Google has thus far fumbled on a decent "To Do" list. That's why many people like myself are big users of rememberthemilk.com (aka "RTM"). I'm not the first person to wish for an RTM Android app. Their mobile site is okay, but a custom app is a must-have for something you use often. No one seemed to be delivering, so I made the "RTM Tasks" Android app myself (see below), leveraging the RTM API.

Since I got my HTC Dream (Gphone) I have been lost without a synchronized task list. Fortunately, a man by the name of Steve V (Vinsac I think) took the initiative and created a great app that integrates with Remember the Milk (https://www.rememberthemilk.com) - a free and awesome online tool for task management.

Just install Steve's app called "RTM Tasks" from the Market on your gphone, provide it with RTM API access (it handles it for you) then you can interface with all of your tasks online. Very handy indeed.

Commercial Photographer's Website Has a Great Personal Touch

Andrew Doran Photography Logo

This page has an awesome example of how offering a personal touch to a commercial website can look really, really good. Congrats to Andrew Doran on a great site. I hope he gets a lot of photography business from it. If you need a great commercial photographer definitely give Andrew a call.

Full disclosure: I don't 'know' Andrew anymore but I did work for/with him at Coast Mountain Photography in Whistler, BC. and he was an extremely good photographer and a likeable guy. As a result, I am even happier for his success. Cheers Andrew!
